Who we are

GetUnprocessed is a free meal planning service for UK families. We help you plan nutritious, budget-friendly meals while minimising ultra-processed food. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use our website at getunprocessed.co.uk.

What data we collect

We collect only what we need to provide you with personalised meal plans:

Email address	To create your account (via Google sign-in or email magic link)
Name	To personalise your experience (from Google profile, if provided)
Household preferences	Household size, cooking skill level, dietary preferences, and allergies — used to generate meal plans tailored to you
Saved meal plans	So you can view and reuse your previous plans
Your recipes	Recipes you create or import, stored so you can use them in plans
Favourite recipes	So we can prioritise recipes you love in future plans
Plan feedback	Ratings you give your plans, used to improve suggestions
Session data	An authentication token to keep you logged in

What we do not collect

No payment or financial information
No health or medical records
No children's personal data (household size is a number, not names or ages)
No location data
No browsing history outside of this app

How we use your data

Your data is used to:

Generate personalised meal plans based on your household preferences
Save and display your meal plans, recipes, and favourites
Authenticate you when you sign in
Improve the service based on aggregate feedback

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes.

Third-party services

We use the following services to operate GetUnprocessed:

Vercel — hosting and deployment (your data is stored on Vercel's infrastructure)
Google OAuth — if you sign in with Google, Google provides us with your name and email
Resend — sends magic link emails when you sign in with email
Anthropic (Claude) — AI service used to generate meal plans (your household preferences are sent to generate plans, but no personal identifiers are included)

Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for authentication. When you sign in, a session cookie is set to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Vercel. All connections use HTTPS encryption. Access to the database is restricted to our application servers. We do not store passwords — authentication is handled through Google OAuth or passwordless email links.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018), you have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
Erasure — ask us to delete your data and account
Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
Object — object to how we process your data

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@getunprocessed.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregate data (such as average plan costs) may be retained for service improvement.

Children's privacy

GetUnprocessed is designed for adults managing household meal planning. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by updating the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
